A carefully thought-out and well-designed map is a powerful tool. We are becoming an extremely visual society, and an increasing number of individuals and firms are using maps to analyze and illustrate spatial problems. Maps, from very simple to extremely complex, can be generated from detailed site visits to remotely-created models and graphics based on air photos and existing maps. Whether you need a 3-dimensional, a general reference or a thematic map for printed or other media, Mapping Solutions, with over twenty years of experience, can advise you on the most effective way to graphically represent your data.

Custom maps and graphics can be created for:

  • courtroom analysis, display and presentation
  • environmental problem solving
  • event and facility management (universities, stadiums and other sports facilities, fairgrounds, festivals, race tracks)
  • transportation and parking planning (evacuation, shuttle and recycling routes)
  • sales and marketing areas
  • spatial analysis of data/GIS (environmental, planning, security)
  • museum display
  • intelligent signage and wayfinding
  • all types of publication sizes and formats including internet websites, animated presentations, QTVR, CD-ROM and other multimedia formats

Contribution to the Geo-Images Project,Geography Dept.,UC Berkeley
The Geo-Images Project is a multi-media collection of images for teaching Geography, put together by a variety of UC Berkeley faculty and staff.

Principals:
Cherie Northon, Ph.D.  cheries@mapmakers.com

Dr. Northon has been doing cartographic consultation since 1980. Over the last twenty years she has been involved in numerous cartographic projects in addition to teaching cartography and various mapping classes at UC Berkeley while running their cartography lab from 1987 to 1999. Following that, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she taught cartography and GIS (Geographic Information Systems).  She has worked with other geographers, biologists, environmentalists, archaeologists, geologists, educators, museums, political scientists, historians, attorneys, farmers, planners, and government agencies. Some of her most recent projects include devising new school district boundaries, campus and facility mapping, waste management and recycling plans, seismic and fire evacuation schemes, transportation and shuttle routes, and maps that address water rights issues, land and resource use, pollution impact, wildlife density, and movement of peoples.

Thomas Eley, Ph.D.  thom@mapmakers.com

Dr. Eley joined Mapping Solutions in 1997.  He is a geographer and wildlife biologist with 25 years of experience in resource management, transportation, and mapping.  His mapping focus has been on environmental and social impacts of oil development and spills, resource distribution and abundance, facilities management, sea ice and sea ice resources, water rights and waterway channelization, public health, and land and marine use analyses.

All work is done on state-of-the-art computers using the latest mapping and graphic software including: Freehand, Geocart, ArcView, ArcGIS, MapInfo, ERDAS Imagine, and Photoshop. The value of digital mapping and graphics is that it encourages frequent updating and multiple uses which can be very cost-effective. Their excellent and effective teaching skills are also available for training sessions.
